I always thought finding the perfect nude lipstick was just a matter of picking out a warmish, pink-hued lipstick that didn’t look too far off my skin colour. Oh, how naïve I was. Turns out, finding a nude lipstick that doesn’t look too chalky or too pale is a universal makeup problem for all skin tones.
With this in mind, us girls at Cosmetify decided to discover the ultimate nude shade for each key skin tone. We’ve even linked through to our personal tried-and-tested favourites to make the process a little easier for you. Happy browsing, and don't forget to check our lipstick guide if there's anything else you want to know!
Skin Tone #1: Pale
The key for paler skin types is to ensure you don’t go too light, in fear of looking a little corpse-y. Try opting for a nude similar to your lip colour but with a hint of dusky pink to make lips a little more noticeable.
Skin Tone #2: Warm Fair
Unlike paler skin types, ‘beige’ nudes are on the cards for you. Still try and opt for a beige that has warm pink undertones so you don’t look too washed out.
Skin Tone #3: Cool Fair
Cooler skin tones are going to want to hunt down a rose-tinted beige to add a subtle pop of colour. The trick here is to amplify your natural lip colour with an added glowy warmth.
The pop of colour from Yves Saint Laurent is the perfect nude lipstick to take you from day to night. Not to mention, this ultra-moisturising formula makes your lips oh-so kissable.
Skin Tone #4: Olive/Caramel
If like Nina Dobrev you're blessed with a gorgeously olive toned complexion then you're going to want to look at nude lipsticks that are ever so slightly darker than your skin tone. Look out for warm caramel hues that emphasise your lips rather than hide them away.
Skin Tone #5: Medium
Medium skin tones should opt for pinker, creamy nudes to add a subtle hint of colour that doesn’t cause too much of a distraction. Ideally, it should look slightly lighter than your natural skin tone for a flawlessly nude effect.
Skin Tone #6: Mocha
Darker hues are your best friend when it comes to mocha skin tones. Add a rich, glowy warmth to your look with a showstopping finish that takes your look from desk to dancefloor.
Skin Tone #7: Dark
Maximise your smile with a nude that beautifully contours and highlights the lips. This doesn’t always mean a subtle hint of colour, instead it can be a deep brown slightly darker that your natural skin tone. For a something a little more glam, add a luscious golden tone lip gloss over the top. This gives you noticeable definition and shine!
