How To Style Long Hair in 2019
New year, new hair, and dare we say it... new you?
2018 was the year that shoulder-length hair ruled the roost. We rocked everything from glass hair to blunt chops and slicked strands, plus relished in a major 90s throwback with accessories like claw clips and scrunchies.
But this year you're going to want all the inches you can get because long locks are ready to steal the 2019 limelight.
So grab your brushes and your combs, your hairsprays and bands, as we've trawled through all of the latest and upcoming trends to tell you how to style long hair this year.
1. Super High Ponytails
If there was ever a queen of ponytails, Ariana Grande would surely take the crown. Much like Kim Kardashian, Bella Hadid and Beyonce, she donned a sky-high pony throughout 2018 and we absolutely adored it. Luckily, this hair trend isn’t going anywhere in 2019, so be sure to stock up on those extra strong hairbands.
2. Extra Long Hair
Showcase long locks in all their glory as seriously lengthy hair is all the rage this year. Kim K-West is the OG trendsetter, so if she’s sporting a ‘do that passes that infamous bum of hers, we are too.
3. Retro Styling
Edgy, classic and a little bit retro, this style is perfect for the days that require full-on glam. Think rollers, brushed out curls and bouffant fringes for a look that will have you feeling very prim and proper.
4. Beachy Waves
Channel total ‘girl next-door’ vibes with beachy waves like Love Island star Amber Davies. This is a go-to style for when you’re feeling a little lazy (or are a couple of days past hair wash day).
5. Bangs, Bangs, Bangs
From low-maintenance feathers to choppy full fringes and statement cuts, the bangs are back in full force this year. Look super sleek and seriously chic like radio and TV presenter Maya Jama, who's been rocking the fringe since day dot.
6. Top Knots
Top knots are the sleek and sophisticated style that can spice up your entire look in an instant. Whether you choose to throw up a quick and messy bun or flaunt a perfectly put-together knot like J-Lo, this hairstyle is one huge benefit that comes with long hair. (P.S. we are totally Vanessa Hudgens in this picture).
7. Pastel Hair
Kylie showed us that pastel-coloured hair is going nowhere this year as she stepped into 2019 with her signature baby blue tresses. If you’re feeling a little daring and want to switch up your style in a more dramatic way, then why not make colour your best friend? Make like Kylie and go blue with the Aqua Semi-Permanent Hair Dye, or try out a different colour and make it your own. L'Oreal have a load of colours to choose from, as do Schwarzkopf.
8. French Braid Pigtails
This quick and easy hairstyle is not only cute and a little sassy, but the best for when you want to get all of your hair off of your face. This timeless classic is often showcased by the likes of the Kardashian-Jenner clan, Rita Ora and Zendaya and is a super choice for the summer months. If you're new to the world of braiding, luckily, we have a tutorial on how to get the perfect french braids.
And so that's a wrap – eight tress-transforming ways to style long and luscious locks. While these looks were our favourite of the bunch (and great for beginners), there are many more ways to get creative with your hair in 2019. After all, with long hair, your options are endless.
